Every atom has three basic parts, an electron, a proton, and a neutron.
Both the protons and the neutrons are located at the center of the atom (the inner shell) otherwise known as the nucleus. The protons always have a positive charge. However, the neutrons have a neutral charge which means that their charge is neither positive or negative but, in the middle. In the middle and outer shell, whizzing around the nucleus are electrons which have a negative charge. Usually, an atom has the same number of electrons and protons.
These three main parts of an atom are also split into parts like quarks, leptons, gluons, and gravitons. In fact there are six types of quarks, up quark, down quark, strange quark, charmed quark, bottom quark, and top quark.
