Three Basic Landforms of the Ocean
The ocean has three basic landforms on the ocean floor. The first one is called a mid-ocean ridge which is really just a chain of volcanic mountains. They form when the erupt and since the hot lava hits the cool water the lava will cool really fast building up mountain ranges. The second basic land form is called a sea mount. Sea mounts are pretty much like ridges only they are individuals and do not have volcanoes nearby them. These land forms build up when they erupt and follow the same process as ridges only instead of building other mountains they build themselves up growing taller and taller. Some of them may even grow tall enough to form islands like Hawaii which wads formed by a sea mount. The third one is called a trench. Trenches are dents in the ocean floor that are very deep. They form when two tectonic plates push against each other and because of the water pressure they go down. Trenches are usually found near or between ridges. In fact, trenches are the deepest parts of earth. Take the Marinas Trench for example. Those are the three basic landforms of the ocean.
